Nigel’s Cycling Blog

Welcome to my blog which will hopefully culminate in the successful completion of my first LEJOG in August 2011.

A bit about me:

My cycling history:

  • Started using my MTB to commute (short distance) in 2001
  • 2002 – C2C with John Bell, 135 miles 1.5 days
  • 2006 – Walney to Wear (W2W), Martin Thomas, Jed Woodhouse, John Bell, 153 miles, 2 days
  • 2007 – Southern Lochs and Glens (Glasgow to Carlisle) John Bell, 210 miles, 3 days
  • 2008 – Coast and Castles, Jed Woodhouse, John Bell, 210 miles, 3 days
  • 2009 – C2C ,135 miles with Jed Woodhouse, Andy Robinson
  • End of 2009, purchased Dawes Ultra Galaxy for some serious attempts to come
  • 2010 Hadrian’s Cycle Way, on my own (although Jed did up to half way and Simon from half way to finish), 170 miles, 1 (ONE) day – first person ever according to HCW website, despite strong headwinds for first 60 miles
  • 2010 C2C – Chris Watts, Jed Woodhouse, Andy Robinson, John Bell (1st day), 135 miles 2 days

Aims for 2011:

  • Bought a Trek Madone 4.7 from KB Cycles (www.kbcycles.co.uk) so I can attempt some 100 mile sportifs to keep me sharp.
  • Bought a Garmin 800 (fully loaded) to help with navigation and as a training aid

THIS IS THE REAL BIGGIE:

  • Going to attempt LeJog on my own on my heavyweight tourer, self supported, utilising B&B’s in August and would like complete it in 10 days.

Looking forward to the next update. I believe you’ve started some training but no mention of it yet
